DVD Creation Software

What does "Unspecified Error [0x80004005]" mean in Roxio Creator 8 (Disc Copier) when I try to burn a DVD?

I'm converting some old VHS movies (recorded off of TV) to DVD. I'm using a Panasonic VHS/DVD recorder, with Sony DVD+RW discs. I take the disc and go through the whole editing process to get rid of the commercials, using the Video Compilation tool under Disc Copier in Roxio Creator 8 on my computer. My O/S is Windows XP SP2 and there's plenty of RAM. Everything goes as it's supposed to until I want to burn my creation to DVD. I place a blank DVD+RW disc in my Sony DVD burner (which comes with sample Nero software, btw). Then I click on "Burn" where it pulls up a small window indicating the phases it has to go through. It's then when I get the error message, "Unspecified Error [0x80004005]" and stops the burn process. Never mind that I also get the "Roxio...has encountered an error and needs to close" messages when I try to use anything else in the software suite. I can't get anyone to help me at Roxio Support. Any solutions or suggestions as to the possible problem?

  1. "Unspecified Error" is an error for which there is no specific message on file. I would suggest that you use a stand-alone "video editing" program such as "Pinnacle" or one of the others to make all the changes rather than the Roxio program, and use it just for the actual burning. My other suggestion is to read the manual carefully, as it might be able to tell you what you are doing wrong. Personally, I don't care for Roxio burning programs, but that is just my opinion. (I find they create conflicts under some conditions!)
